In the past two weeks we have made some solid progress on all things dog. I finally found an amazing place where we can go for training, Academy Dog Training, and Beau had a few swimming lessons.
The team at Academy is fantastic! They actually have experience with Dobermans (and other high drive working dogs), take a balanced approach, and offer several options for training. Our first lesson was this past Saturday and I FINALLY feel like I found the right place for us. Beau did really well and made me so proud. He was calm, paid attention, and did perfectly around other dogs.
We visited the K9 Aquatic Center where Beau donned a life vest and had some swimming lessons. I don’t think it was his favorite thing ever, but he was a very good boy and did get the hang of it.
A long lazy 4th of July weekend was just what the doctor ordered and, thankfully, Beau pays no mind to fireworks. Not all dogs and their humans are as lucky. If you have a dog who is upset by loud booming noises, do what you can to minimize the upset – put the pups in a room with the windows closed, the air condition on to make a white noise, a comedy movie on at a higher-than-normal volume and a tasty treat that will last a few hours. Good luck and happy 4th!
