Beau Gets in Some Reps!

Beau continues to excel with the dumb bell retrieve but checks out after about 5 times. I try to switch to broad jump or high jump, recall or command discrimination before going back to it. That seems to be helping. Ideally, I want to begin stitching the high jump and retrieve together in June. I start teaching another Family Dog class and a new Tricks class on Apr 23 to wrap up on June 4th. I am not teaching over the summer so hopefully; I can find a formal Open class to get in additional skills time in a ring set-up.

I will also add that I continue to see maturation as he pushes 3 (late July). He is less inclined to scream out the window when he sees a dog. Instead of hitting DEFCON 1 immediately, it is more like DEFCON 3 – there is some thoughtful grumbling, allowing me to nip it in the bud. I hate how quickly time is passing with him, but I do love watching his impulse control continue to develop. He will never be Yellow Dog, but he does seem to be settling down.
