Here we are at the tail end of January and with the help of some mentors, Beau is on a few supplements and I have a Holter monitor in my possession. He is on Dasaquin, vitamin E, fish oil, L-Carnitine and Taurine. He loves the word “medicine” and comes running, which is not a bad thing. These are all the result of his diagnosis of occult DCM determined at his annual heart testing. I am optimistic but know that nothing will prevent the progression of this disease – however, I will do what I can to slow that progression.

Our training is coming along and, if his performance at class can carry over to trial, we are in great shape. BUT we all know how hubris bites you in the backside. 😆 At this point, we will continue to train and start trialing in Open class starting this summer.

I have been asked to teach basic obedience and advanced beginner at another club, so we will start that in February, giving Beau another chance to contextualize his skills in a new place. I have also started to plan the 10 tricks we need for a TKP. We have 7 and we have plenty of time, since I want to get our CDX first. We’ve started working on ”go outs” and directed “go outs”. Articles are next! Whew!
